…A Place Where Our Veterans
Are Still Honored & Respected
In the U.S.A. today is Veterans’ Day – the day when we supposedly honor those brave men and women who have served this great country. Unfortunately for most Americans, it is just another day, albeit a day when school kids and political bureaucrats have off work or school and when the politicians make speeches about how wonderful our vets are only to return tomorrow to their offices where they will forget and neglect them for another year.
With veterans in this country living on the streets and dying from neglect while awaiting care in our VA hospitals, it is refreshing to learn that there is, at least, one place in this world where American veterans are still respected and honored – Holland !
A couple of years ago, the soloist was a 13-year-old Dutch girl, Melissa Venema, backed by André Rieu and his Johann Strauss orchestra (the Royal Orchestra of the Netherlands).Melissa repeated her performance of “Il Silenzio,” later that year at a Rieu concert in the Maastrict Town Square. Please listen (below) to honor all US veterans! This beautiful concert piece is based upon the original version of taps and was composed by Italian composer Nino Rossi.
