Dear “We Remember Blog” followers,
I very much regret to inform you of my wife, Pat, and the co-publisher of the We Remember Blog’s passing. After a ten month battle with cancer, Pat, the love of my life and my wife of 56 years, took her last breath in her own bed, holding my hand and with a smile on her face on Saturday afternoon (6/11).
On that day our youngest granddaughter, Sami Staskus, was scheduled to graduate from UC Santa Barbara. Pat wanted to hold on to see her graduate and above all not spoil Sami’s day. Despite severe pain, Pat watched the internet feed of the graduation ceremony. As they were calling the names of graduates and each was crossing the stage to receive their degrees, I felt her hand tense. I put the feed on pause and drew close to her as she took one final deep breath, like a sigh of relief, and was gone. Later, when I resumed the feed, they were calling out Sami’s name and she was accepting her degree. I cannot help but believe that despite her pain and suffering, Pat purposely held on to see Sami graduate and did everything she could do to disrupt Sami’s day as little as possible. What a brave and selfless woman!
I still love Pat very much and already miss her as do our children Rick and his wife Vivian, Chris and her husband Donald Campopiano and Jackie Lee and her significant other Nick Daley. Needless to say so do our grandchildren:
Rick and his wife Vivian’s son Patrick Fleming;
Chris’ and Donald’s children Sami Staskus and Ryan Campopiano;
and Jackie’s son Mike Lee, his significant other Tracey Nisky and her daughter Maddie Lee.
Thank you for the friendship you shared with Pat & please say a prayer for her!
